Huang Hui attends the first standing council meeting of Guangdong Maritime Law Research Institute and is elected as vice president

The first meeting in 2022 of the Joint Standing Council of Guangdong Maritime Law Research Institute, the Traffic Law Research Institute of Guangzhou Law Society and Guangzhou Shipping Law Research Association was successfully held on 21 March 2022. Our managing partner Huang Hui, who is also director of the Maritime and Aviation Law Committee of Guangzhou Lawyers Association, was in attendance and elected as vice president of Guangdong Maritime Law Research Institute.
The meeting was chaired by Zhan Simin, president of Guangdong Maritime Law Research Institute, second-class senior judge and former vice president of Guangzhou Maritime Court. The standing council summarized the main work of this year and canvassed the partnership with Guangzhou Maritime Museum. Planning on the academic construction of shipping law was also discussed and consensus was reached. Following the meeting, Guangdong Maritime Law Research Institute launched its first session of Shipping Law Salon.
At this salon session, which was themed around protection of seafarers’ rights and interests, participants drilled down into the current situation in China and the reasons therefor, and the convergence of domestic laws with the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. In-depth discussion was also carried out on issues such as the application of law in disputes concerning seafarer’s labour relations. Huang Hui shared his thoughts on the theme of “legal issues concerning crew change, treatment of injuries and illnesses, and repatriation of crew under the impact of the pandemic”, revealing and analyzing frequently seen disputes and losses in connection with the pandemic, such as huge amounts of berthing charges, maintenance costs, costs arising from the shutdown of a wharf or terminal, etc.
