Huang Hui and Zhang Jing Attend Retrial Hearing in the Supreme People's Court

A public hearing was held in the Supreme People’s Court on 7th July 2016 in the retrial of the salvage contract dispute involving MT “Archangelos Gabriel”. Our Mr. Huang Hui and Ms. Zhang Jing were in attendance representing the Respondent.
The case was heard publicly by Presiding Judge He Rong, Chief Judge Zhang Yongjian, Deputy Chief Judge Wang Shumei, Judge Yu Xiaohan and Judge Guo Zaiyu, which was webcast on the Supreme People’s Court’s Weibo page, chinacourt.org and sina.com, attracting 2.18 million viewers, with a maximum of 53,270 concurrent viewers, and 1.048 million hits on Weibo. China Central Television and China National Radio made a special coverage of the retrial in their evening news programs. After the hearing, Mr. Huang Hui accepted interviews with Legal Daily and China Trial.
Over 60 people appeared in the public gallery of the courtroom to observe the hearing, which included Mr. Gao Zhiguo (deputy to the National People's Congress and director of China Institute for Marine Affairs), Mr. Sun Xianzhong (senior researcher at the Institute of Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and guest supervisor of the Supreme People’s Court), Mr. Huang Jin (president of China University of Political science and Law), Mr. Zuo Haicong (dean of Law School at Nankai University), Professor Si Yuzhuo (former president of Dalian Maritime University), Professor Fu Tingzhong (dean of Law School at Tsinghua University), diplomatic envoys from related countries, former deputy president of World Maritime University (Sweden), associates of foreign law firms, foreign students studying in China, and teachers and students from local colleges and universities. Relevant reports were carried on China Central Television, Guangdong Television, China National Radio, Legal Daily, People's Court Daily and China Trial Journal.
As soon as the hearing was over, the director of Nanhai Rescue Bureau came over to the Respondent’s Seat to share hands with Mr. Huang Hui and said “Fascinating debate”.
