Our lawyers attend the 2020 Guangzhou Maritime Law Seminar and win the Second Prize for Best Papers

The 2020 Guangzhou Maritime Law Seminar was held in Guangzhou on 7 November. The event was co-hosted by Guangzhou International Shipping Judicial Research Center (Judges Association of Guangzhou Maritime Court), Guangdong Lawyers Association, Guangzhou Lawyers Association and the Maritime Law Committee of China National Lawyers Association, under the guidance of the Guangzhou International Maritime Justice Research Base of the Supreme People’s Court, with the support of Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice and the assistance of the Maritime and Logistics Law Committee of Guangdong Lawyers Association, the Maritime Law Research Institute of Guangdong Law Society, Guangzhou Shipping Law Research Society, Legal Business Environment Research Institute of Guangzhou Lawyers Association, South China Branch of China Maritime Arbitration Commission, Guangzhou Branch of Maritime Law Institute of Dalian Maritime University, and the Maritime and Aviation Law Committee of Guangzhou Lawyers Association.
The seminar focused on “Maritime Law and Legal Issues Concerning the Implementation of the Civil Code”, “Maritime Law and Revision of the Special Maritime Procedure Law”, and “Chinese Port and Shipping Enterprises Going Abroad and Participating in Belt and Road: legal risk prevention”. Papers were solicited on the themes and the paper entitled “On the Improvement of Mechanism for Extraterritorial Application of Foreign Laws in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” co-authored by our Mr. Huang Hui and Mr. Huang Tianyun won the second prize for the Best Paper Award.

Our managing partner Mr. Huang Hui, who is also director of the Maritime and Aviation Law Committee of Guangzhou Lawyers Association, chaired the third theme-“Chinese Port and Shipping Enterprises Going Abroad and Participating in Belt and Road: legal risk prevention” and the closing ceremony.

Taking the impact of the implementation of the Civil Code on maritime justice and the integration between the two as the starting point, the 2020 Seminar discussed frontier issues concerning reform of the maritime judicial system, enriched the research on substantive and procedural laws for maritime matters, and actively explored innovative ways to serve the construction of legal service system in the Greater Bay Area. The Guangzhou Maritime Law Seminar, which is an annual event, is widely recognised as the highest-profile seminar in South China on the research of maritime law.
