Richard graduated as a Master of Laws (International Business Law) from Queen Mary University of London. Richard focused on the Maritime Law area during his time in London and also serve as a Maritime lawyer after being back to China.
 
Richard specialises in handling disputes arising from contracts for carriage of goods on sea, insurance contracts (in particular marine insurance disputes), vessel collision and contact disputes, maritime creditors' right registration and compensation, insurance subrogation and recovery, and foreign-related commercial contract disputes.
 
Richard’s main clients included well-known P&I Clubs (such as Gard, Skuld, West of England, etc), insurance companies (such as PICC, Donghai Insurance, etc.), shipping companies (COSCO, CMA CGM, EVER GREEN, etc.)

I. M.V. "Angelic Power" - Represented Greek crew members successfully obtained priority from distributions of sale proceeds of the vessel for their wage claims

II. Represented a Singaporean shipowner in managing the full spectrum of legal matters within the Chinese Mainland arising from the grounding of its Vessel F in the Suez Canal. The case encompassed cargo transhipment, cargo entry procedures into China, and the pursuit of general average contributions from cargo interests.
As a result:
1) the cargo was successfully transshipped and cleared for entry into China;
2) successfully assisted the shipowner in reaching a settlement with cargo interests on the general average matter in the shortest possible timeframe and successfully recovered 98% of the contribution amount that the cargo interests were obligated to bear. (Amount in dispute: approximately USD 4.15 million)
 
III. Represented a well-known Vietnamese shipowner in handling the litigation concerning claims for heat damage to yellow peas carried by its Vessel T. The matter was successfully resolved through a settlement with the cargo interests at approximately 45% of the claimed amount. (Amount in dispute: approximately USD 3.7 million)
 
IV. Represented a well-known Chinese shipping insurance company in addressing the total loss insurance compensation dispute arising from the grounding of a Sierra Leone-flagged Vessel T (underwritten H&M insurance by the clients) due to typhoon. (Amount in dispute: approximately USD 2.6 million)
 
V. Represented multiple marine aquaculture farmers at a national-level fishing port in Guangdong Province, PRC in claiming compensation from the liable vessel for losses incurred as a result of the vessel’s collision with their aquaculture rafts. (Amount in dispute: approximately RMB 18 million)
